Do you bring your own experiences into your teaching? Do you bring into your classroom examples of real people's lived experiences? Do you provide your students with a variety of readings give them multiple perspectives?

Lived Places Publishing's mission is to offer faculty course readings that explore the intersection of social identity and place; published in collections led by leading scholars and practitioners, distributed affordably and sustainably through the university library.

Location (whether physical or virtual) has a major impact on the experience of a social identity/identities — be it exclusion, inclusion, difference, etc. Each person's lived experience exists within the context of location, and our books go past data and trends to reveal real human lives. It's a chance to see the world through the eyes of another human.

To see if this is a fit for you, here are some basic details on Lived Places Publishing (LPP) books:

  • The books we publish are meant to be concise course readings for undergraduate students, 150–200 pages (extent 40,000–60,000 words). These are not scholarly monographs or textbooks.
  • Primary market: academic libraries and course adoption – with print and digital trade sales too.
  • We welcome and encourage full expression, not watered down or sanitized stories.
  • Royalty terms are favorable: Authors earn 20%.

Open Access Policy

Any of our authors can opt in to having their book considered for open access publishing. In our revenue sharing model, 5% of each sale is pooled to fund open access titles. At Lived Places Publishing, authors and their institutions do not pay a fee to publish their work.


AI Policy

Our books can’t be written by AI. They are the unique lived experiences of real people. With that, Lived Places Publishing supports the responsible use of generative AI tools to assist in the production process – provided that they respect high standards of data security, confidentiality, and copyright protection. Authors are responsible for ensuring that the content of their submissions meets the required standards of academic research and writing
