In this conversation between Drew Harris, The Emergent Entrepreneur Collection Editor at Lived Places Publishing and Yoni Medhin, author of An Ethiopian Family's Journey of Entrepreneurship in the US: A Story of Determination, Resourcefulness, and Faith, they discuss how Yoni's entrepreneurial journey as a second generation immigrant was shaped by, but different from, his parents’ entrepreneurial journey as first generation immigrants.

About the Speakers

Yoni Medhin is the Founder and CEO of Grain4Grain, an upcycling firm that uses innovative technologies to convert food manufacturing by-products into functional, healthy, and sustainable ingredients.

Dr Drew Harris teaches Strategy and Entrepreneurship, and was the first President of the Connecticut Consortium of Entrepreneurship Educators (a division of the Entrepreneurship Foundation). He earned his Ph.D. in management from NYU’s Stern School of Business. Drew’s research centers on the role formal privileges (those written into law or organizational rules) play in skewing outcomes in organizations, communities and states. Central to his work as teacher and mentor is being grounded in place and developing the others’ potential at the intersection of person, physical space and place in time.

An Ethiopian Family's Journey of Entrepreneurship in the US: A Story of Determination, Resourcefulness, and Faith by Yoni Medhin tells the life story of a child of immigrants, from escaping war-torn Ethiopia to becoming a successful entrepreneur in the US.
