New Platform to Improve Accessibility, Durability and Flexibility of Unique Content
March 18, New York, NY – Lived Places Publishing (LPP) proudly announces its official launch on the Fulcrum.org platform. This milestone marks a significant advancement in the accessibility and discoverability of scholarly content focused on social identity and the lived experience of place.
LPP publishes concise narrative-based stories and texts of Lived Experience, designed as Course Readings. The Intersections: Identity & Place Collection comprises 105 ebook titles, developed under LPP’s mission to amplify marginalized voices, ensuring a broad scope of perspectives gained through Lived Experience. Our publishing model includes full eBook Interlibrary Loan (ILL), DRM-free, unlimited user access, within a one-time perpetual rights acquisition model. LPP proudly sets aside 5% of all revenues to underwrite certain titles as Open Access, at the author’s request. To date we have published 4 Open Access titles.
“Our mission is two-fold, to ensure that our content is novel, vital, and topical, and to deliver that content in a format which meets the needs of libraries, including ILL rights, removal of DRM restrictions, and a single unlimited acquisitions model,” said David Parker, Co-Founder and Publisher at Lived Places Publishing.
Fulcrum’s platform is based on open-source library-owned infrastructure based at the University of Michigan Library and offers a range of advantages that align with our mission, including:
- Flexibility: Support for a wide range of digital objects and familiar workflows for publishing production staff.
- Durability: Best-in-class solutions for long-term preservation, underpinned by Fedora and preserved by the University of Michigan Library.
- Discoverability: Stable identifiers and integration with key partners ensure that all objects are easily discoverable.
- Accessibility: Commitment to supporting and improving the accessibility of content. Fulcrum aims to meet the latest WCAG 2 AA standards.
- Integrity: Transparent business practices with no hidden fees and clear accounting for costs.
