Being Black and queer from the inner city has both moments of pain and joy. In these lived experiences, David B. Green Jr. has learned to reclaim joy through “fierceness,” which is something hard-won and deserving of celebration. This session serves a celebration of sorts, demonstrating how Black queer people can discover meaning and acceptance.
In this conversation between Dr. David B. Green Jr., author of Inner-City Sissy: A Black Queer Literacy Story, and Seuta’afili Dr. Patrick Thomsen, Lived Places Publishing Collection Editor, they discuss the intersection of identity, music, acceptance, and resistance through the life course from childhood to adulthood.
Panelists:
- Dr. David B. Green Jr., California State University, Los Angeles
- Seuta’afili Dr. Patrick Thomsen, University of Auckland (and Queer Studies Collection Editor at LPP)
